Cookie

The term cookie is part of the American vernacular from a young age. It has become synonymous with the reward it bestows upon children who perform a desired task. Some would go as far to say, "a cookie a day keeps the doctor away."

Cookie--A Sweet For The Sweet

When we think of a cookie we are instantly reminded of how simple life was when we were children. As we get older and the responsibilities of adulthood creep into our lives, the simple pleasures sometimes take a back seat. We begin to focus on parenting and real estate and investments while letting our childhood buddy, the cookie, fall by the wayside.

Cookies and Childhood

In America, we become transfixed with the sweet treat at an early age. Maybe it's because many of our mother's found a small cookie to be the answer to a skinned knee or play day catastrophe. As we get older and begin to watch television, we become entranced with the ultimate cookie friend on Sesame Street.

Looking back, it was so easy to be drawn to a furry blue creature named Cookie Monster. He seemed to live the perfect life that included an unending supply of cookies. How could you not like this guy? He was the perfect companion for our early years; full of energy and nice things to say. Oh, for the childhood years......

Once again this leads to adulthood and the realization that the cookies we deal with are sometimes the one's associated with technology in the form of the embedded kind that exist in HTML on our computers. Hold on....I'll stop there. Why talk about computer lingo when we can wind back 20 years and remember the way cookies used to be?

The next time you think about having a cookie, remember that it has universal appeal. It doesn't matter if you are talking about "biscuits" as they are called in the United Kingdom and Australia, "galletas" from Spain or the Dutch "koekje," take the time to remember how your own childhood was affected by this sweet confection. Whether you prefer oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, vanilla or gingerbread, they all have the same great cookie appeal leading us to declare "a cookie a day, keeps the doctor away."
